How to apply for accountant jobs
Make a one-page CV. Build it with the free CV maker and pick a template when you download it. Put a clear headline at the top, for example "Accountant | BBS | Tally and Excel | VAT and TDS returns | 2 years".
Show proof, not adjectives. Name the software you use, the returns you have filed, and the size of business you kept books for. Say if you prepared statements for audit.
Apply to adverts that fit. Open the jobs page with "accountant" already searched, and read the duties and requirements before you apply.
Add two lines for each employer. Say why this workplace, and which part of your experience matches their advert. The cover letter guide shows how.
Keep your phone on. Many employers call to fix an interview within a few days.
Interview questions to prepare for
Many employers give a short practical test with journal entries. Also expect:
"What is the difference between VAT and TDS?"
"How do you do a bank reconciliation?"
"When are VAT returns due?"
"The books do not match the bank. Where do you start?"
"Which reports would you give the owner every month?"
How to grow as an accountant
Study CA or ACCA alongside work, or an MBS or MBA in finance. Learn financial analysis, budgeting and cash-flow planning. Deep tax knowledge always pays.
The path is accounts assistant, accountant, senior accountant, finance manager and then chief financial officer. Some accountants start their own bookkeeping and tax practice.
