Factories turn raw materials into products: food, drinks, noodles, cement, steel, plastics, garments, furniture and medicines. Industrial areas around Kathmandu, Birgunj, Biratnagar, Butwal, Hetauda and Nepalgunj hire machine operators, assemblers, material handlers and shift leaders. Factory work is one of the most common jobs abroad too.
The roles
Production worker or helper. Feeds lines, packs products and keeps the area clean.
Machine operator. Runs a machine, sets it up and watches quality.
Assembler. Puts parts together, for example furniture or equipment.
Material handler. Moves materials and finished goods.
Shift leader. Leads the team on a shift, tracks output and safety.
