Teachers plan lessons, teach classes, check students' work and help each child move forward. Private and community schools across Nepal hire teachers for every level and subject, as well as substitute teachers and teaching assistants.
The roles in a school
Teaching assistant. Supports a class teacher, helps students who fall behind and manages materials.
Primary teacher. Teaches the early grades, often several subjects to the same class.
Secondary teacher. Teaches one or two subjects, such as maths, science, English or Nepali, to higher grades.
Substitute teacher. Covers classes when a teacher is on leave.
Qualifications and the teaching licence
Requirements rise with the level you teach. Generally, the basic level needs at least a +2 qualification, grades 9 and 10 a bachelor's degree, and grades 11 and 12 a master's degree in the subject. A degree in education (B.Ed or M.Ed) is valued.
