The twelve
A file called "CV final final 2.docx". Rename it: Ram-Bahadur-Thapa-CV.pdf.
Sending Word, not PDF. Layout breaks on someone else's machine.
An email address like cooldude2060. Make a plain one with your name.
A phone number that does not receive calls. Check it works, and answer unknown numbers while job hunting.
No headline. The reader has to dig for what you are.
Duties instead of results. "Responsible for sales" tells nobody how you did.
No dates, or gaps left unexplained. A gap is fine; hiding it is not.
Photos, caste, marital status, father's name. Old biodata habits, not needed.
Three pages. Nobody reads page three.
Spelling mistakes in your own job title. Read it aloud once, slowly.
The same CV for every job. Change the headline and the top skills at least.
References with names and numbers you never asked permission for. "Available on request" is enough.
The two that cost the most
No numbers anywhere. A CV without a single figure — invoices handled, students taught, kilometres driven, customers served — reads as unverifiable.
Applying late. Many roles are filled from the first two dozen applications. Set a job alert and apply on day one.
