Every year, people in Nepal lose money, and sometimes much more, to fake job offers. Scams are most common for jobs abroad, but they happen at home too. Here is how to recognise one, and how to protect yourself.
Warning signs of a fake job offer
They ask you for money. A fee to apply, to "hold" the job, for training, for a visa, or for a medical. On Alwass, no employer or agency may charge you for a job, an interview or a placement.
The offer is too good. A very high salary for little experience, or a job abroad with "everything free".
There was no real interview. A job offered after one short chat on WhatsApp is not a real process.
They rush you. "Pay today or lose the place" is pressure, not hiring.
You cannot find the company. No registration, no address, no website, or a name that copies a well-known firm.
For overseas work: no DoFE licence. An agency recruiting for work abroad must hold a licence from Nepal's Department of Foreign Employment.
