Hospitality is the largest employer of people without a degree in Nepal, and the easiest sector to enter with training instead of a certificate. These six categories on Alwass cover it.
Hotel
What: front desk, housekeeping, kitchen, service, maintenance and management inside hotels, resorts and guest houses. Who hires: properties from lakeside resorts to city business hotels. Why it is needed: a hotel runs 24 hours and cannot function understaffed for a single shift. Where: Pokhara, Kathmandu, Chitwan, Lumbini and the trekking routes. When: hiring peaks just before the autumn and spring seasons, so apply in August and February.
Restaurant
What: cooks, kitchen helpers, waiters, cashiers, supervisors and delivery staff. Who hires: restaurants of every size, from highway dhaba to fine dining. Why it is needed: food service turnover is high, so vacancies open constantly. Where: every town in Nepal; densest in the Valley and Pokhara. When: all year, with a rise before festivals and the tourist seasons.
Bar
What: bartenders, servers, security, stock and floor management. Who hires: bars, lounges, clubs and hotel bars. Why it is needed: licensed venues need trained staff who can handle stock, cash and customers late at night.
